Toni Steadman

Xerox Technician / Georgetown University Law Center / Washington, DC

A member of our Union since 1991, Toni Steadman works as a Xerox technician at the Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, DC.

“My involvement in Union activity began with my father who was shop steward for 15 years with the Washington Post Printers and Paper Handlers,” she says.

Toni says that she really got interested “when our brothers and sisters were not treated equally and my father stood before his members and began his speech of ‘We can all work together but we must all be equal in how you treat and respect your workers.’

“ I was little and passing out flyers and leaflets to inform workers of the equal rights as union workers.  Today I am presently active as a Union Delegate at the law center, and I have participated in just about all areas of responsibilities and rights of our members. I have been on some front lines that have overcome some large and small obstacles.”

Presently, Toni works working with the grievance committee and looks forward to participating on the education committee as well as continuing work with the political committee.

“I will try to do the best I can to represent my coworkers and to uphold the oath of delegation that I took,” she says.
