When the Bread and Roses Cultural Project developed Our Work, Our View to chronicle a typical day in the lives of Buffalo, NY healthcare workers through photography, Celeste Chase and Rosalind Hampton jumped at the opportunity. They would learn from a professional photographer and create a chronicle of their days. Saying yes was natural for both women; they are always dedicating their time and talents to their patients, their families, and 1199SEIU.
Celeste and Rosalind are known throughout the Union for their activism as Delegates, lobbying their elected representatives, and attending rallies to fight for improved healthcare funding.
Celeste, who works full-time at Women’s and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, is a regular volunteer on Primary and Election Days, working hard to ensure members get the political representation we deserve.
Rosalind works at Waterfront Health Care and Grace Manor Nursing Home. Her experience with Our Work, Our View served as a catalyst for creativity in other areas, including poetry. Rosalind was recently featured on a local NPR broadcast discussing how she balances her creative and community endeavors with her family life.
Celeste Chase and Rosalind Hampton epitomize the 1199SEIU spirit; nurturing, giving, creative, and active. They touch bodies all day long through their work as caregivers, but it is the lives they touch that make them true leaders.
