Unpaid Leave

From the League Contract Summary of Selected Articles

  • Employees are entitled to nine months of maternity or paternity leave.
  • Military leaves of absence will be granted in accordance with relevant law.
  • Leaves of absence up to three years for Union business may be granted for Employees with one or more years of service.
  • Leaves of absence for illness or injury for up to two years or an Employee’s length of service, whichever is less, are allowable with a doctor’s certification.
  • Other leaves of absence without pay will not be unreasonably denied by the Employer.
  • Employees will be reinstated to their former positions following return from an involuntary leave of absence. Upon return from a voluntary leave of absence Employees will be reinstated to their former position or another position within their same classification.
