CAREGIVERS AT JORDAN HOSPITAL TELL BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD, “STOP SQUEEZING OUR COMMUNITY HOSPITAL”
WHO: Caregivers at Jordan Hospital
WHAT: Delivery of petition to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts asking the insurance giant to not restructure its rate system, which would be detrimental to Jordan Hospital’s revenue stream.
WHEN: Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at 3:30 p.m. (press conference); 4:30 p.m. (petition delivery)
WHERE:
Press Conference: Obery Street near the Court House across from Plymouth North High School (41 Obery Street)
Press Conference to be Followed by Petition Delivery: Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Office, 25 Technology Place, Hingham
WHY: Frontline caregivers at Jordan Hospital are concerned that business decisions by Blue Cross Blue Shield may seriously jeopardize the care that’s provided at the facility.
Recently, BCBS has proposed a rate restructuring that would reduce payments being made to Jordan Hospital. The loss of revenue could be detrimental for the community hospital, which serves communities in Bourne, Carver, Duxbury, Halifax, Kingston, Lakeville, Pembroke, Plympton, Plymouth, Marshfield, Middleboro, Sandwich and Wareham.
A reduction in revenue could make it harder for the workers to provide quality care and the costs will inevitably be passed down to our patients and the workers at the facility.
We will announce plans to tell BCBS that its rate restructuring plan is harmful to Jordan Hospital and the communities it serves.
A caravan will leave after the press conference and deliver a petition to the Blue Cross Blue Shield office in Hingham. The petition has signatures from Jordan Hospital workers and expresses our belief that reducing revenue payments to Jordan Hospital is a bad idea for the facility and for the community.
