Workers at Massachusetts Nursing Home Celebrate Union Victory!
Nursing home workers at Avery Manor in Neeham, MA, made their voices heard on June 24 by voting 54 – 23 to unite together in 1199SEIU. Workers faced a difficult organizing campaign during their quest to join the union, but they perservered against management’s usual threats and scare tactics.“I voted yes because we need job security, respect and dignity at our workplace and will win with 1199,” said Avery Manor CNA Huguette Jean-Baptiste.
Avery Manor is part of Kindred Nursing Homes System, and is the sixth Kindred home in Massachusetts to unite with 1199SEIU.
The new 1199SEIU members are excited about bargaining their first contract with management and look forward to working together with other members of 1199 to ensure all healthcare workers have a voice.
