iSpeak: Diversity

During the confirmation hearings for Judge Sonia Sotamayor, Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee accused Judge Sotamayor of being biased because she supports diversity. Do you believe that factors like gender, race and class should be considered in choosing individuals for critical positions such as the Supreme Court?

No. It should be based on knowledge, professionalism, and wisdom which are very important and necessary to handle this position. Gender, race, class and nationality have nothing to do with knowing how to do a job the right way.

I do think all aspects and characteristics of the person of such a high office should be considered. These United States of America dictate that diversity is of utmost importance.
